Welcoming Our New Financial Planning Specialist, Riley!

Welcoming Our New Financial Planning Specialist, Riley!

Your Financial Planning Fort Collins Team is growing! We’re thrilled to announce our latest hire and welcome Financial Planning Specialist Riley Thoubboron, CFP®, to FPFoCo!  (In case you’re wondering, his last name is pronounced Thaw-burn.)

That’s right! You now have a third Certified Financial Planner professional on your financial planning team! Read on and get to know Riley.

Riley’s Role

Within Financial Planning Fort Collins, Riley plays a crucial role in maintaining the accuracy of your financial plan. As our financial planning specialist, he begins by digging deep into your data. If you’re a current client who has completed your initial financial plan, you’re likely to hear from him in the near future. In fact, if you’re a winter client who has scheduled your financial plan review, he’ll reach out to you soon if he hasn’t already. So if you receive an email from Riley at Financial Planning Fort Collins, that’s him! He’ll write to you to request fresh information, like reminding you to update your linked accounts in RightCapital and asking you to send us fresh data from your checklist. If you recently became a client, Riley will initially be a bit more behind the scenes.

In either case, as you send your data our way via secure upload, Riley will be collecting, organizing, and entering it into your financial plan. So even if you haven’t met Riley yet, he’s getting to know you through your data!

He’ll “see” where you are today on paper and learn about the hard work you’ve put in. If you consider what you’ve already done the foundation of your financial plan, think of Riley as your architect. He’ll take your information and then frame out your future. As he updates the data in your RightCapital, he’ll also begin to build your personal financial planning recommendations.

Then Riley will work alongside Jason and Regina, your trifecta of CFP® professionals, to create or update your financial plan. He’ll also work with Christin on any account-related requests and assist your lead advisor in preparing for your strategy consultation. Plus, he’ll play a key role in creating your tasks in RightCapital to keep your plan on track.

If you’re a client who engages us for ongoing implementation services, you can expect to hear from Riley more often, too! When you have a topic-focused consultation on the horizon — like cash-flow, estate, insurance, or tax planning, just to name a few — Riley will assist you as you prepare. He’ll also be working with our topic-focused experts internally to prepare for your consultations.

In short, Riley will be keeping an eye out for you and your financial plan on nearly every level. He’ll have a role in building your initial financial plan, creating strategies adjacent to your core needs, and will even work with your lead advisor to prepare for your shorter 15- or 30-minute consultations.

As his position with us here at FPFoCo adjusts to maximize his strengths, we hope you’ll enjoy getting to know Riley via phone, email — and maybe even in person!

Riley’s Career Journey

So how did Riley end up here at FPFoCo?

Originally from Richmond, Vermont, Riley’s passion for finance goes way back. His journey into the world of personal finance began early on, sparked by his grandfather introducing him to the stock market.

Riley has since sharpened his chops with both an educational and career background in finance. He graduated in 2016 from Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts, with a degree in business administration and a focus in finance. Since his university days, Riley has spent time in various roles within the industry. Before moving to Boulder, Colorado, in 2019, he led a team on a brokerage operations desk and served as a suitability principal for a small broker-dealer in Montpelier, Vermont.

In 2022, Riley earned the prestigious Certified Financial Planner designation, showcasing his commitment to professional excellence. Most recently, he was chief compliance officer and financial planning consultant at a registered investment advisory firm in Boulder, Colorado.

So to say that he comes to Financial Planning Fort Collins with an abundance of experience may be an understatement!

Just for Fun

Of course, there’s much more to Riley than his hard-earned educational acumen, wealth of professional experience, and critical role here at FPFoCo. Here are some fun facts about the newest financial professional on our team …

Riley’s friends encouraged him to move to Boulder in 2019.

He embraces the Colorado lifestyle and enjoys snowboarding, hiking, mountain biking, and more. He also completed his first half-marathon in 2023!

Riley loves traveling both domestically and internationally, having visited 26 countries and 34 states with hopes to see much more. In the summer of 2023, he completed the “Tour du Mont Blanc”, a 100-plus mile and 32,000-foot uphill hiking journey in the Swiss Alps. This summer, he will be traveling to the Azores region of Portugal to officiate his oldest sister’s wedding!

Riley estimates that he has watched each episode of “The Office” at least 10 times. For anyone doing the math, that’s around 740 hours — or nearly 31 days.

He volunteered in Denver’s Financial Planning Day, assisting individuals in the community who were looking for guidance from a CFP® professional.

Riley loves taking on monthly challenges that his friends and family suggest.  Starting in January 2021, he went 28 months straight trying something new each month. His monthly challenges included running 100 miles, consuming no caffeine, eating no sugar, going gluten-free, calling a friend every day, and journaling each day.

With his mind for numbers, keen attention to detail, and eye for financial planning strategy, we’re incredibly grateful to have Riley on our team. We can’t wait for you to meet him! Until you do, know that he’s working hard behind the scenes for you. And if you’re a current client who would like to welcome Riley or say hello, just reach out and we’ll get you in touch!
